Santa's Workshop at The Great Place
Our Ongoing Support of Fort Hood’s Santa’s Workshop
For nearly a decade, the Richard A. Oman American Legion Post 302 in Hutto, Texas, has been deeply honored to support Fort Hood’s Santa’s Workshop, an annual program that brings joy, hope, and essential resources to military families in need. What began as a small outreach effort in 2015 has grown into a meaningful partnership that continues to serve soldiers’ children year after year.
Santa's Workshop at The Great Place

On November 20, 2025, Commander Tim Thompson of Post 302, along with our Santa’s Workshop Chair Sandra Thompson and former Chair Marilyn Morgan, attended the official ribbon-cutting ceremony at Fort Hood. Their presence reflects the long-standing commitment of Post 302 to this mission—one that has been shaped and strengthened by the Morgan family’s generosity and leadership.

The Morgan family began supporting Santa’s Workshop in 2015, laying the foundation for what has become one of our most impactful community programs. Throughout the year, the Workshop collects and distributes toys, children’s essentials, and seasonal gifts for families facing financial hardship. In addition to holiday deliveries, volunteers help coordinate events such as “Christmas in July” and other special outreach activities for military children.

This year’s ceremony included the unveiling of a plaque honoring the late Edward Albert Morgan, a dedicated American Legion member whose compassion and service remain at the heart of this program. The plaque reads:

**“In grateful appreciation for a decade of impactful generosity and belief in the spirit of giving. Your continued donations and support have brightened the holidays for many families across our community.

In loving memory of Edward and Marilyn Morgan, whose kindness and passion first inspired this partnership in 2015. Their legacy continues to bless countless military children and families each year.”

Members of the Morgan family joined us for this special moment, along with Tony Gatain, Edward’s best friend, who continues to honor his legacy.

We are also proud to share that the Honor Tree, created in Edward’s memory, received the “Spirit of Christmas” award—a heartfelt tribute to his life, service, and the lasting impact he made on the Fort Hood community.
