Our programs are the heartbeat of Post 302, dedicated to supporting veterans, military families, the youth of Hutto, and the greater community through service and shared values.
The Duffel Bag InitiativeÂ
The Duffel Bag Initiative is a community outreach program led by Richard A. Oman American Legion Post 302 to support veterans, service members, and military families experiencing financial hardship or unexpected challenges.

Through donations from individuals, businesses, and community partners, participants can receive clothing, household goods, personal-care products, and other everyday essentials at no cost. Our goal is to provide assistance with dignity, respect, and compassion while helping military families meet their immediate needs.

The program is made possible by generous donors and volunteers who collect, organize, and distribute donated items.

Post 302 proudly supports Fort Hood Santa’s Workshop by helping provide toys and essential items to military families and children in need throughout the year.

Our partnership, inspired by the generosity of Edward and Marilyn Morgan beginning in 2015, continues their legacy of service and giving to military families.

Sponsorship support allows us to contribute to holiday distributions, Christmas in July, and other outreach efforts that bring assistance and joy to soldiers and their families.

Richard A. Oman American Legion Post 302 proudly supports Fort Hood Santa’s Workshop, which provides toys, gifts, and essential items to military families and children in need.

Our support extends throughout the year through holiday giving, Christmas in July, and other outreach efforts benefiting soldiers and their families.

This partnership began in 2015 through the generosity of the Morgan family, whose continued dedication helped strengthen and grow the program.

Post 302 is honored to continue the legacy of Edward and Marilyn Morgan, whose compassion and commitment to military families continue to inspire our involvement today.

Sponsorships and donations help us provide additional toys, household essentials, children’s items, and other needed resources so more military families can be supported each year.

A permanent tribute to Hutto High graduates killed or missing in action, honoring local heroes.

Hutto HS Air Force JROTC
Richard A. Oman American Legion Post 302 is proud to partner with the Hutto High School Air Force JROTC and Hendrickson High School Marine Corps JROTC programs. Together, we help young people develop leadership, discipline, citizenship, and a lifelong commitment to service.
American Legion Boys and Girls StateÂ
American Legion Boys and Girls State are hands-on leadership programs for students preparing to enter their senior year of high school.

Delegates operate their own model government, campaign for office, hold elections, debate legislation, and learn about the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. Participants also strengthen their leadership, teamwork, public-speaking, and decision-making skills.

Each year, when funding and program availability allow, Richard A. Oman American Legion Post 302 sponsors one boy and one girl from the Hutto High School JROTC program to attend.

Eagle Scout & Flag Retirement Support
Post 302 partners with local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, including supporting Eagle Scout projects.
The Post helps host and support respectful U.S. flag retirement ceremonies with local youth.
Post 302 donates essential supplies and clothing to women’s and homeless shelters, senior living centers, and children’s homes.
The Post organizes donation drives for the Williamson County Animal Shelter to provide food and care items for pets in need.
